Days of Ethnographic Film 2023
We are pleased to announce that the program of the festival DEF 2023 is ready. The screenings will take place at the Slovenian Cinematheque between 23rd and 25th February, access to the auditorium is described on this page. Submission for DEF 2023 closed
Thanks to all authors for cooperation.
The organizers are now focusing on the review and selection of films for the festival programm. This will be determined and published online in mid-January 2023. The festival will take place between February 23 and 26 at the Slovenian Cinematheque.
Film registration for DEF 2023
We are opening the online submission for the DEF 2023 festival. The event will be held in March 2023 and will take place at the Slovenian Cinematheque.
Submissions are possible until November 1, 2022, please read also our regulations. The registration form can be found here. You are welcome!
Programm update
We need to notify you of a minor program change. Due to the absence of the author, the conversation with Lisbet Holtedahl will be replaced by a conversation about her work with individual film excerpts, led by dr. Sarah Lunaček, Department of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology, Faculty of Arts, and Manca Filak, Institute of Slovene Ethnography, ZRC SAZU.

Days of ethnographic film 2022: Lisbet Holtedahl
The international film festival Days of Ethnographic Film 2022 is thematically dedicated to visual anthropologist Lisbet Holtedahl, a professor emerita at the Norwegian University of Tromsø. Since the 1960s, she has researched women’s everyday lives and ever-changing societies in Cameroon, Niger and in Norway. She is an internationally recognised author of ethnographic and documentary films. Continue reading

Days of Ethnographic Film 2021
We are pleased to announce that the program of the festival DEF 2021 is ready! Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, all films will be screened between March 3rd and 6th virtually on the platform vimeo.com/showcase/def2021. Along the films there will also be recorded discussions with the authors. The information on the selected films is available on this link.
The films will be available for free, however viewers will need to apply for the festival will have to register. Once you applies, we will send you a password the day before the festival officially opens.
