Man of Nature and Me

Original title Man of Nature and Me

[mlsid]

Shot in the forest and hills surrounding a small Transylvanian village in Romania, the film portrays Gabi, a fisherman and forager. We enter his life closely connected with nature. We get to know what he thinks of and how he feels about nature; Romania and life in Romania, the fate of the average Romanian surfacing now and then. The film also presents how the relationship between Gabi and the film student unfolds, and how this development influences the course of the film. The narrative turns into a metanarrative on the filmmaking process; and the initially perhaps naive, charming film turns out to be different.

I was born in 1984; I am an ethnic Hungarian woman, born and raised in Transylvania, Romania. I am married to Ralph Veraart, fellow filmmaker. I studied anthropology and English at the Babes-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca, Romania between 2003 and 2009; including master’s degree in anthropology. After finishing my studies, I have been working as a teacher and translator for a year in Cluj-Napoca. I speak Hungarian, Romanian, Dutch and English fluently; Norwegian on an intermediate level. At the moment I am a graduating student of the Visual Cultural Studies program at the University of Tromsø, Norway. I am by nature inclined to creative work. During my first student time, this creation resulted in writing poetry and at a certain point taking up photography and film.
