The fate of an entire culture lies in the hands of a few determined individuals. The film follows them struggle against the threats of modern-day life to keep alive the traditions and memories of the Skolt Sámi people.
The documentary film A Shout into the Wind is the debut film of the Skolt Sámi director Katja Gauriloff. It portrays the present-day reality of the Skolt Sámi people in which modern life and old traditions converge in perfect harmony. A strong connection to nature in daily life emerges as one of the principle themes of the film.

Author/s Katja Gauriloff
Katja Gauriloff was born in Inari, Northern Lapland. Her mother is Skolt Sámi from original habitat, Petsamo. Storytelling is near her family; her grandmother is the most famous Skolt Sámi traditional storyteller. She has studied film directing (2000 – 2004) in Tampere School of Art and Media. Today she is a film director and part-owner of Oktober Production Company. She is a member of EDN, European Documentary Network and has participated in Twelve for the Future workshop in 2007-2008. A Shout into the Wind is her first long documentary film. In 2006 she received the 10 000 $ Seed Grant of the National Geographic All Roads Film Project. Her documentary film A Shout into the Wind was awarded the State Quality Support for cinema productions in Finland in 2008.
